Let’s talk about vampires and other blood sucking, life draining forces. Seems like the right time of the year for that.
Evil spirts are much like the old fable of vampires in many ways. The BIG difference is evil spirts are real. The people who told these tails seemed to know a lot more about spiritual war fair than we do as Christians sometimes. Lets take a closer look at the similarities.
Vampires, much like the devil and his allies are free to walk about engaging you, charming you, seducing you, persuading you. Don’t believe in the devil? First of all, excuse me but, read your Bible!
I Peter 5:8 tells us to “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” Disbelief is one of his best tools! If you don’t believe in the devil or evil spirts they can get as close to you as they want and lure you into their trap. Even in the movies, it is not the people who are prepared and armed that are bitten. It is the people do not believe in vampires that are the perfect target!
Look for the Truth in the Word of God. “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31-32
Like the imaginary vampires, the goal of evil spirts is to suck the life from you, so perhaps you may join them and share in their fate of a tortured eternity hidden from The Light. The Light is their enemy. It has the power to reveal their true nature and ultimately destroy them
Another shared characteristic of vampires and evil spirts is although they are free to roam about and pursue you, they can follow you home but they cannot come inside, unless they are invited.
Too often though we do invite them in, and once we do, they are reluctant to leave until unmeasurable damage is done. We meet them at the door and listen to their persuasive talk, with the intention of NEVER letting them in. However, we don’t slam the door in their face. Instead, we listen, and ponder. We let ourselves be charmed by outward appearances. After all, we reason there is no harm in just looking.
For those of you who are still not convinced there are evil spirts among us until you have time to go ahead and read your Bible, let’s just give these evil spirts names. You cannot deny these guys exist. How about we call them sin, temptation, bad thoughts, bad attitude, drugs, alcohol, false gods, sloth, pride, greed, lust, envy, bitterness, resentment, and on and on it goes. Same beast, different names. Sometimes we crack the door just enough to let them slip in. And once they are in they have free reign to destroy us as well as the other people in our lives. Sometimes we just let them in for a quick cup of coffee, or short a conversation, just to see what they have to say. Just one episode of that questionable TV show. After all there is nothing else to watch. We have no real intention of letting them stay or falling into their charms. What harm can come in exploring the possibilities, learning how the other half live so we can fully understand them. Once you have invited them into your life they do not have to leave. However, they can be destroyed if you know what weapons to use.
These evil temptations have some common aversions with our imaginary foe the vampire. These things expose them for what they are, and when used as weapons will destroy them. The Cross, The Bible, and The Light. They will make them flee because they know the power held in these things.
The Cross: And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
The Bible (The Word of God): Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Proverbs 30:5 (KJV)
The Light: (Jesus) When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 NIV
Maybe the writers of these mythological creatures we call vampires knew a thing or two about spiritual warfare!
Now that you know the weapons that will destroy your enemies, keep them close, and be on the ready at all times.
Happy Fall Y’all
